ExamVision offers a wide range of 14 magnifications available in 5 loupe systems:

Both our Essential and HD range are based on the Galilean lens system. Kepler Reflekt, Kepler Kompakt and Kepler Advanced are all based on Prismatic lens system.

When considering how to choose your dental or surgical loupe magnification, it’s important that you consider all aspects of your needs – both your personal preferences and your working conditions.

If you are a first-time loupe user or using magnification all day long, we recommend 2.3x-3.0x magnification, as these levels give you an optimal depth of field (i.e. freedom to move back and forth with your subject in focus). This helps you maintain a relaxed posture throughout the day. The field of view is also widest at these magnifications.

Higher magnifications are best suited to specialist work, usually for a few hours at a time. Many of our customers have a 2.8x loupe for general work and use it in combination with a 3.3x, 3.8x, 3.5x, 4.6x, 5.7x or 6.4x for intricate procedures.

It is very important not to select a magnification for your loupes that is higher than you need for your work as you risk compromising your ergonomics and comfort. Ideally, anyone using more advanced loupes has a set of Galilean as well as Kepler Advanced with 4 different magnifications and switches between them throughout the day depending on the task at hand.

All surgical loupes from ExamVision are designed by optometrists and customised to the individual surgeon, other medical professional, or medical student. Each surgical glasses solution is based on individual eyesight, need for magnification as well as physical working environment such as distance and tools, and facilities available.

In general, we recommend the following magnifications for surgical loupes within medical and surgical fields:

  • With lower surgical loupe magnifications from 2.3x to 3.3x magnification you will get loupes ideal for surgical applications and standard surgical procedures that require a large field of view and excellent depth of field. Medical students rarely need magnifications above 3.3x. This is partly because most of them are under the age of 40.

Galilean HD is an exceptionally lightweight loupe offering four different magnification options, making it the ideal choice for a wide range of surgical and medical procedures.

  • For more advanced, detailed, and complicated surgical procedures performing micro-surgery, you will generally need a surgical loupe with a magnification from 3.5x and up to 6.4x. Surgery procedures on hands, eyes, vascular, neuro etc. require excellent vision and magnification from 3.5x up to near-microscope magnification like 6.4x.

Explore ExamVision Kepler Kompakt if you require high magnification from your loupe. The perfect loupe for specialist procedures, yet still comfortable enough for all-day wear.

Click here to see our wide range of magnifications including our adjustable magnification system, Kepler Advanced - the world´s lightest adjustable loupe and the only loupe with 4 magnifications in 1 (3.6x, 4.5x, 5.5x and 6.4x).

All dental loupes from ExamVision are designed by optometrists and customised to the individual dentist, oral surgeon, and other dental specialists. Each solution is based on individual eyesight, need for magnification as well as physical working environment such as distance, tools, and facilities available in the dental clinic.

All in all, we offer a range of 14 magnifications within five dental loupe systems.

However, in general we recommend these magnifications for dental precision:

  • Lower dental loupe magnifications from 2.3x to 3.3x are often sufficient for general dentistry, diagnostics, extractions, implants, orthodontics etc. Hygienists performing general dental hygiene procedures or dental students rarely need magnifications above 3.3x in their loupes. This is partly due to the fact, that most are under the age of 40.
  • Higher dental loupe magnifications from 3.5x to 6.4x are often suited for precision procedures: crown and bridge, composites and aesthetics, periodontal surgery, final margin verifications, complicated endodontics such as accessory canals, complicated diagnostics including horizontal and vertical fractures and similar procedures.

Explore the innovative Kepler Advanced, an adjustable loupe meticulously crafted for expert users. It stands out as the world's only loupe with four magnifications in one—offering 3.6x, 4.5x, 5.5x, and 6.4x options. ExamVision’s specialists will assess your eyesight, your need for magnification as well as the distances, tools, and facilities in your dental clinic. Based on your requirements and our expertise, we will guide you and customise the best dental hygiene loupes solution for you – a solution that is uniquely fitted for your eyes while at the same time facilitating a superior ergonomic position.

We do however have some general loupe recommendations for dental hygiene professionals:

  • For dental hygiene examinations, preventive care, and other oral procedures, a lower loupe magnification from 2.3x to 3.3x will often be sufficient.
  • Lower loupe magnifications have the benefit of a larger range of movement and depth of field than higher magnifications, making them ideal for both entry-level users and all-day wear.

No, there is no general standard of measuring and calculating magnification. It generally depends on the manufacturer and the loupe system provided.

ExamVision always measures the “angular magnification” at a working distance of 45 cm. Magnification is a good starting point, but you need to test a pair of loupes for yourself and assess the vision, clarity, field of view, depth of field etc. and if the magnification is good for you in relation to the procedures you want to perform.

This is a question of personal preference. In general, a TTL (Through the lens) loupe can be tailormade exactly to your specifications.

There are several strong advantages in favour of using TTL loupes instead of flip-ups:

  • TTL loupes weigh less than flip-ups because of the absence of the added weight of the hinge mechanism.
  • A wider field of view is provided by TTL loupes. The best possible optical performance is achieved by bringing the loupe as close as possible to the eye, which means we would always recommend TTL loupe.
  • High-end TTL loupes are normally 100% custom-made according to the user’s specifications, including: working distance, prescription, IPD (Inter Pupillary Distance) to ensure maximum comfort, perfect vision, ergonomics, and high level of focus. Conversely flip-ups come as one-size-fits-all.

If you are considering a high-end TTL loupe for yourself, please contact your local ExamVision dealer.

Personalisation

ExamVision loupes are made by hand with quality components, customised to meet your individual needs. Facial features, prescription, eyesight, ergonomic issues, your personal preferences, and your working conditions; all these aspects are implemented in the final design and production of your tailormade pair of loupes.

The result is an outstanding loupe experience, 100% tailored specifically to you and your physiology and working routines.

No, it doesn’t influence your magnification. Working distances up to 62 cm can be achieved with Galilean and Kepler systems.

Working distance over 62 cm will most often require even larger systems, coming closer to telescope systems.

We suggest getting in touch with ExamVision skilled dealers and optometrists, who can guide you in choosing the perfect system for you, according to your personal features and professional needs.

Yes, ExamVision can basically make loupes for everyone! ExamVision is crafting loupes for individuals without any restrictions based on their prescription. The carrier lens solutions provided are entirely personalised, ensuring an optimal optical outcome for both the oculars and the carrier lenses of your loupes.

ExamVision will incorporate your monofocal or multifocal requirements in carriers seamlessly:

  • Monofocal carrier lenses, also called Single Vision lenses, which correct for only one distance;
  • Multifocal lenses, also called Progressive lenses, combine multiple optical powers in the same lens, without any visible lines.

ExamVision always uses hi-index lenses, so we can make your carrier lenses as thin and light as possible. Your ExamVision dealer will recommend the best frame for your prescription, and of course we can also add your prescription in the oculars.

We offer to correct your loupes – both in oculars and prescription lenses – to suit your new prescription.

Rebuild or modify?

As a standard, all ExamVision loupes are made with the possibility of later being rebuilt. Which means that if you should have any prescription changes, changes in eyesight or changes in your working distance or working angle we will be able to offer you a rebuild on your existing loupe.

If we order the new prescription lenses for you in advance, you can send in the loupes, we will make the correction in less than a working week before it is sent back via your local dealer. Your loupes will get a service at the same time!
